2024 Scholarship Recipients

The Manchester Woman’s Club is thrilled to announce the 2024 recipients of our two scholarships given each year to students from Manchester-Essex Regional High School. The Club is proud to honor students who exemplify our values, including social, ethical, and intellectual interests, especially in service to others.

This year we have chosen two students who seek to further their education in fields related to service and betterment of the lives of others.

Amelia Costa received the Alice Forbes Perkins Hooper Scholarship, awarded to students intending to pursue a career in nursing, medicine, or an allied health field.  Amelia will be attending Providence College with plans to study Nursing. She wants to make healthcare more accessible and equitable for all. She sees difficulty in accessing preventative care as the most pressing issue in healthcare today, causing health issues to go unnoticed and therefore, untreated.

Congratulations, Amelia!

The Nathan B. Sargent Scholarship was awarded to Avabella Mitrano. Avabella is the founder of “Golden Bonds: Connecting Generations”. She initiated this community outreach program with the mission to break the cycle of loneliness among the elderly community. Avabella explains, “recognizing the immense value in intergenerational connections, the program emphasizes the transformative power of regular visits.”

Congratulations, Avabella!

Thank you to all the applicants for this year, the number of qualified, deserving candidates was impressive. Thanks to all the members of the Manchester Woman’s Club and our community who make it possible to support the future generations in their academic endeavors.

The April Shower of Prizes fundraiser is over and there are 30 happy winners! But all of you are winners to us. Thank you for supporting the Manchester Woman’s Club. Your donations support our two annual scholarships, keeping the lights lit on the Friendship Tree during the holiday season, the Visiting Nurses Association, and several charities in our community. We cannot do it without you. Thank you.

Sad News

Dear Judy

I wanted you to know that my beloved Mom passed away on Monday night. We are so sad.  She was on Hospice for 2 weeks and passed from her Congestive Heart Failure very peacefully at home.  We know that the gates of heaven opened up and Dad and Arthur were there with open arms along with so many other loved ones. The Greek music was playing and Dad was waiting for Mom to lead the line! I posted on Manchester Who What when page but couldn’t on WC page. Please let others know. Mom loved everyone at the Manchester Woman’s Club.

Mom’s beautiful Memory is forever Eternal
